Falls Park - Sioux Falls South Dakota

This is an amazing place to visit.  If you are ever in the Sioux Falls area, please schedule at least one hour to visit the park.  Unlike most this park has very few railings, and you are able to walk out onto the rocks... Please be careful though it gets kind of slippery.  I am told that the park is not only great to visit in the summer months, but is very amazing also during the winter, when things are frozen over, and the ice does amazing things. Really be careful on the rocks if you venture out there in the freezing weather.

Being able to walk out onto the rocks with the water rushing past, you are able to feel the power of mother nature. It is very relaxing to just go out, and stand there, or grab a seat on the rock and just relax for a few minutes.

A five-story viewing tower is also available which gives you an amazing view of the park itself, but also a great view of the city of Sioux Falls.  I did not go up there on my first visit, but I assure you I will on my next visit to Sioux Falls.

There is a light show that plays throughout the summer, but I have not heard many good things about it. It takes you through the history of Sioux Falls, and then lights up the falls.

From the Sioux Falls Website:

The Falls of the Big Sioux River have been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Native American peoples were the first to visit the falls and bring stories of them to European explorers. They have been the focus of recreation and industry since the founding of the city of Sioux Falls in 1856. Today the park covers 42 acres. Each second, an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the falls.
